WELCOME

“Ohana” in Hawaiian means family, but the meaning is far deeper than immediate or even extended kin. Its significance goes back to the roots of the taro plant which are used to create the next generation. Each generation is responsible for the next. In that way Ohana extends to relationships with the entire community.

OUR DUAL MISSION

Empower Howard County students

so they overcome barriers and achieve self-defined success.

Our community becomes more inclusive

as we build relationships with people who are outside our normal social circles.

OUR VISION

With diverse teams of mentors, vulnerable Howard County high school students are provided with tools to reach their educational potential and become successful community members; segregation and isolation are reduced for all.

A DIVERSE TEAM MAKES US STRONGER

Diversity fuels the spirit of OhanaHC. Each student is paired with four diverse

mentors who partner with them to develop strategies for success with a combination of resources and opportunities.

Our commitment to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience strengthens us every day.  Everyone is valued and celebrated for who they are and what they can share with OhanaHC and the community. Deep, long lasting relationships are forged; segregation and isolation are reduced for all.
